Conform or think in a social world?

It’s rare that a post catches my eye and makes me angry when the source is usually good.  Should under-19s really clean up their social media acts before applying to university/college? Holding a can of beer (at very much under age 21)  is hardly an offence in much of the world.  Being at a party that takes stupid photos is hardly unknown.  Admissions officers know this.  Young people with brains try things out and that’s what real -even crusty – academics want. The young can be bound by rules when they have the degrees – not before.  Of course, those who are older and seeking university admission need a more adult view of why non-conformism translates into productive academic curiosity – but that’s life.
